Product Care

Steelwaters jewelry is handcrafted from oxidized 925 sterling silver and requires proper care and attention. To keep your jewelry in the best condition, please follow these recommendations:

Silver Jewelry Care

- Remove your jewelry when washing your hands, showering, at the beach, or in the pool.
- Avoid contact with household products, cosmetics, and chemicals.
- Keep away from rough surfaces.
- Do not expose your jewelry to extreme temperatures.
- Store separately in a dry environment (jewelry box or pouch).
- Clean using soap and warm water (neutral pH), and dry with a soft cloth or polishing cloth.

**Important:** Before engaging in hard physical work or going to the gym, remove silver jewelry to avoid potential damage.

Over time, exposure to natural elements, daily products, and the skin’s natural pH can cause 925 sterling silver to dull, while oxidized silver may fade.

Care of Uncoated Silver Jewelry

If you have not worn a piece without oxidation or gold plating for an extended period and the stones have become excessively dark and lost their shine, you can restore them. Mix a few drops of ammonia with warm soapy water (about 60 degrees). Use a soft toothbrush to gently clean the piece, then rinse in clean water, dry, and polish with a soft or flannel cloth.

Caring for Oxidized and Gold-Plated Items

The care guidelines for oxidized and gold-plated items are similar to those for silver, but it’s essential to remember that both gold and oxidation are delicate coatings that require special attention.

We utilize electroplating, a trusted method since 1865, which allows for a dense application of 18 and 24 karat gold onto the surface, just a few microns thick. This technique provides the natural shine of pure gold.

To ensure durability, we strategically select areas for gold plating, enhancing abrasion resistance and long-lasting luster. However, please note that in exposed areas, this plating is very thin and requires extra care.

To prolong the life of your oxidized and gold-plated pieces, we recommend removing jewelry before washing your hands or using antiseptics and avoiding detergents and cleaning products.

If you notice that a piece with oxidation or gold plating has lost its shine due to lack of wear, you can restore it by soaking it in a mild dishwashing detergent solution for a few minutes. Afterward, rinse in clean water, dry, and polish with a soft cloth.

Note: Please use this procedure only as needed to maintain the finish for as long as possible.

Stones and Diamonds Care

- Avoid scratching, impact, or dropping. Diamonds and stones can break, crack, or chip when struck at certain angles or with enough force.

- Avoid contact with water, as it can cause water infiltration under larger stones, leading to fogginess or limestone deposits.

Leather Care

For all leather items, we recommend keeping them away from water and sunlight. If leather gets wet, wipe it with a dry cotton cloth and let it air dry. We primarily use vegetable-tanned leather, which may stain when exposed to water.
